Greetings from Stony Ridge Farm!
Bob and I want to wish everyone the happiest of Thanskgivings. We hope that this week brings you closer to the love and joy that only family and friends can offer. As the world spins and turns at its own pace and rhythm, leaving some of us dizzy and ungrounded, perhaps we can use these cooler, slower days to get grounded in the rhythms of our own hearts.
Food helps! Conscious selection of ingredients, recipes, and even serving dishes brings us right down into the present moment. Thinking of each dinner guest - whether just two or for more than twenty - during food preparation can be the most sacred of prayers. We like to think of this style of cooking as opening fewer cans and more hearts!
They say there will be rain on Thursday, but we'll probably take a hike anyway. I know we'll give the animals a little extra feed. We've gotten some rye to sprout so they'll have something green to munch on now that the weeds have finally stopped growing. We haven't mulched the leaves yet this fall, so the drive and front of the house will be littered with a beautiful orange pattern from the maple trees. The day will be slow, warm, fragrant, and tasty!
When we sit to eat, we'll be thinking of you. We'll say thanks that we can pursue this lifetstyle because 40-50 families choose to have our veggies and eggs in their diet. And, we'll think of the soil that we tend to like a family members and in returns gives, and gives, and gives. It seems acceptance and abundance are all around when we take a moment to breathe it in, and that is a true blessing each of us can enjoy!
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving,
Lorrie and Bob
