Just a quick note of thanks and update for you on a morning that is too chilly for me to do most of my other chores.
We are at the halfway mark for share commitments. Thanks so much for particpating and making the deicssion early. It has helped us get a jump on planning the season.
We have ordered all our seed and soil amendments. We have started cabbage, broccoli, kale, and leeks from seed. Today, I'm headed down to our growing area to start more broccoli, our lead lettuce, onions and more leeks. Spinach and asian greens have been direct seeded in one of the low tunnels. Radishes and bunching onions will be direct seeded when the next warm spell comes thourgh the area. We also have a nice batch of carrots started under row cover. These will be the first items in your share come April.
We're going to hold off planning the CSA Day event until we get a sense of the weather. Hopefully, it will be a lovely early spring day and we can host a meet-the-farmer event for everyone who can come pick up their bonus share for signing up early. So, stay connected to this event page to keep up with that weekend's details as they unfold.
We will be delivering to Jefferson County, WV; Baltimore, MD and Frederick, MD. If you know of someone who enjoys fresh and local produce but is too busy for farmers' markets, please forward this link to them. Thanks!
Finally, we have begun migrating our website over to Squarespace, which will allow us to have an e-commerce function that will make payments much more manageable. It will also allow us to support our community of small, food related businesses by offering add-ons to the shares. So far, we have salt from J.Q. Dickinson Salt Works and Tree Frog Hot Sauce. We will also be offering the Stony Ridge Farm loose tea blend. This will be where members will purchase their broiler chickens as they become available. We're ordering the chicks today!
Stay on the sunny side!
